  • Work hours cannot exceed 40 hours per week
  • Employment contracts can be written or verbal
  • Minimum wage is 30,000 ouguiya per month ($800 USD)
  • Income tax is withheld from employee pay after social security contributions have been withheld
  • Employers must contribute to social security
  • New employees must be registered with the CNSS (Caisse National de Securite Sociale) and the CNAM (Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie). These organizations must also be notified upon termination
  • Foreign workers need a work and residence card to live and work in Mauritania
